Day 1
Lecture 1: Using science in your profession: Searching for and interpreting scientific articles

Speaker: Argenis P. Vergara-Torres.

This lecture aims to introduce the scientific article as a means of scholarly communication and to explain how, despite being written for other researchers, such publications can be used to enhance professional practice.

Lecture 2: Why search in scientific journals if we have AI – Presentation of the journal Scientific Discoveries

Speaker: Ateneo para la creación y difusión del conocimiento (Athanasios Pappous, Pablo Gómez and Argenis Vergara).

The main purpose of this lecture is to present the journal Scientific Discoveries to the public. During this presentation, the speakers will explain the importance of peer-reviewed publications (this concept will be defined), the editorial process, and the challenges faced by authors and the academic world regarding restricted access to publications and open access. The speakers will also highlight the (current) inability of AI to access this type of document.

Lecture 3: Reinventing physical education: UNESCO's proposal

Speaker: Oswaldo Ceballos.

This lecture will introduce the main ideas of UNESCO’s Quality Physical Education project. It will address the principles underpinning inclusive, active and values-based teaching, as well as examples of how these principles can be applied in educational practice. The session will also reflect on the teacher’s role in developing physical education that promotes well-being, equity and participation for all students.

Lecture 4: Interpreting sports news without bias

Speaker: Pablo Gómez.

The purpose of this lecture is to inform participants about the presence of biases in sports journalism across different media outlets. The session will provide guidelines for identifying such biases and offer strategies for interpreting events and reports as objectively as possible.

Day 2
Lecture 5: Beyond teaching physical education, what other professional paths are available?

Speaker: Athanasios Pappous, Pablo Gómez and Argenis Vergara.

Through an interactive lecture format, the speakers will share their personal experiences and professional trajectories related to physical education and physical activity. They will also discuss alternative career paths for those who, for any reason, may not pursue physical education as a full-time profession. A question-and-answer session will be included.

Lecture 6: Guidance and recommendations for choosing a postgraduate programme

Speaker: Oswaldo Ceballos.

The objective of this lecture is to explain what a postgraduate programme is, its purpose and its various types. The speaker will outline what participants can expect from each type of programme (Master’s degrees—scientific or professional—and doctoral studies) and will offer guidance and recommendations for making an informed decision when selecting postgraduate studies.

Lecture 7: Using qualitative methods for comprehensive evaluation in physical education and sport (Presentation of the MOOC "Sport DIS-ABILITY")

Speaker: Athanasios Pappous.

This lecture will present different qualitative methods for evaluating various aspects of a physical education lesson, as well as the appropriate moments for their use. The session will provide guidance on organising and thematically analysing the collected data in order to make more informed professional decisions based on the results obtained.

Lecture 8: Professional reflections and projections: “what the conference leaves me”

Speaker: Organising and Scientific Committee.

Rather than a lecture, this will be a group-work and networking session with the speakers. Its purpose is to bring conference participants together in small groups (preferably those from the same institution to facilitate interaction), to reflect on what they have learnt during the conference, and to outline possible professional pathways after graduation. During the activity, members of the Organising and Scientific Committee will circulate among the groups to answer questions, share contact information and support the development of future professional connections.
